Artist Howard Hersh lives and works in San Francisco, California.
Howard Hersh’s elegant abstractions defy categorization. Demanding to be experienced simultaneously as painting and sculpture, these pieces draw the observer close to examine the dynamic interplay of painted shapes and exquisitely crafted scaffolding, unsure of which parts are fully three dimensional and which are painted illusions. The radical transparency and titled planes in Hersh’s work invoke ideas central to the conceptual architecture of Deconstructionism.
Howard is a third generation artist who has exhibited his work widely around the country. With 60 solo shows and over 200 group exhibits, the artist’s work is in prominent places in the United States, China, Japan, Indonesia and Africa. Some of his museum collections include the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth TX, Museum of Fine Arts Santa Fe, NM, Asheville Art Museum NC, and University of Florida. Among his prominent collectors are The David and Lucille Packard Foundation and the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation.
