Cee Cee Collins is our favourite artist on the platform. She is a rare soul and an early adopter. She was always enthusiastic about what we are up to next and extremely supportive. We shaped the Art Visit platform for artist's like her.
In time of our studio visit, Cee Cee was changing her studio space. She displayed her art outside, in a back garden of a neighborhood coworking space in Berkeley. This setup didn't change anything about intensity of her artworks and her attitude.
Cee Cee is a young artist, voice of her generation and an activist. She highlights the problem of exploitation of sex and porn workers. For her art, Cee Cee uses spicy photographs found on social media. She contacts owners of photographs for permission and turns them into vivid acrylic paintings.
Original photographs dictate the final composition. Heads are missing and genitals dominate the composition. What's left is the body, naked, objectified and being watched. One artist on the Art Visit platform felt offended by "gross nudity" appearing next to her own artworks.
I perceive the final rendering opposite. Women in Cee Cee's paintings look attractive, fruitful and desirable. They enjoy being in front of the camera and getting all attention. Cee Cee makes unusual color choices, like Paul Gauguin when he painted Tahitian women. Cee Cee's women have smooth skin that radiates in vivid complementary colors. She shows us a better version of reality or a possible alternative.
Although Cee Cee is at the beginning of her career the mission behind her art and intensity of her voice is far beyond the majority of starting artists.
